Sympathy

Sympathy came out of my own struggles to understand how God's compassion comes to each of us personally. Seeing the tragedy in others lives leads me to wonder how God is exactly at work in our personal struggles. Many times I am encouraged by Heb 4.15, that Jesus completely sympathizes with our weakness in every trial. Such relief and encouragement for faith to know that He always looks up us with compassion and favor. 

only you can sympathize truly

   knowing all of me

      inside your heart

   you know the temptation

      to look at myself

         and to hold my own cup

      against you, but

only you can sympathize truly

   for you wore flesh

      in perfection

         holding the spirit of life

            inside your chest

               you chose to love

                  to be self-less

                     and breathe

                        in me

                           renewal

only you can sympathize truly

   for you know dually

      both infinite and me

   both divine and fleshy

         you take form of God

            and put it in a box of skin

               wear my limbs

               feel my weakness

               know my temptations

               hold my broken relations

      what a fire you held

         when the world tore your flesh

      unleashing love through God forsaken

            my sin inside of your righteousness

         somehow i die too

            despite my selfishness

         and now i am in love

            with the beloved

               in your grip

         held and known inside my sin

            you know my pain

         you come with compassion

               with nothing to gain

                  my flesh in your cross

                     in resurrecting pain

               you come in love

                  and love me to live again

only you sympathize me truly
