It’s Kind of A Long-Term Drowning

i have never seemed to be

so far away

i have never drifted back again

i used to think that reaching you

was like reaching for a friend

i have never touched the ocean depths

but i have floated on my own

i have never sipped the starry night

but i've been awake and alone

i can’t tell you what it’s like to ride the back of God

to tame the darkwater beast

and claim him as my own.

i can never make it to the land

so many promised me they’d come

but i can be here

i can remain here

as me, ever me, always…

it is down here the world has spun me

like a lake-bottom-stone

and the song the world has sung me

left me awake and alone

now i'm tied here hand and wrist

with the barrels and the bones
